Daniel E.
Greene is one of the foremost portrait painters, manipulating the
pastel and oil mediums with accuracy and detail, as well as fluidity
and softness. Although a master in both mediums, Greene spends most
of his time working in oil. His work evokes breathtaking realism executed
with careful observation and tedious attention to detail. By combining
simplicity with realism in its highest form, the elements of Greene's
great paintings are effortlessly controlled to result in a perfect
documentation of his subjects, both physically and sensitively.
In 1995, the American Society of Portrait Artists honored Greene with
the John Singer Sargent award for life-long achievement and excellence
in portraiture. He was awarded the Artists Fellowship Benjamin West
Clinedinst Medal for the achievement of exceptional artistic merit.
He has also received the Lifetime achievement award from American
Artists magazine, and was named to the hall of fame by Oil Painters
of America Society.
Greene's subjects are concentrated in the professional arena, with
leaders of government, banking, education and industry. Some recognizable
names are: First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Astronaut Walter Schirra,
Wendy's founder Dave Thomas, Commentator Rush Limbaugh, Bryant Gumbel
of CBS. He also recently completed commissioned portraits of R. Albert
Mohler Jr. and Dr. Paige Patterson, Presidents of Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary; and James T. Draper Jr., president of Lifeway
Christian Resources.
