Upon graduating from the Architecture University in Saigon, he went on to complete a Master's Degree in Architecture. Mai worked as designer, using his artistic abilities combined with his architecture skills to build several impressive complexes. However, successful as he was, Phi felt called to move to America to escape the oppression and to provide his family with a better life. Escaping communism and imprisonment's, refugee camps and physical cruelty to himself, his wife and young daughter, Mai persevered through everything that came his way, making him constantly strive for higher goals. After more than 2 years of hardship in a journey spanning from Vietnam to Cambodia to Thailand and the Philippines, Mai finally reached the United States in 1989. After arriving, Phi had the chance to begin working as an oil portrait painter and later was represented by LEON LOARD™, and he immediately surpassed expectations, excelling naturally. Mai has now been with LEON LOARD™ since 1994, enjoying the fulfillment of creative freedom and portrait painting that was previously denied him. Mai is glad to be in the United States, a place where he can be free to use his creative talents in a more diverse way, constantly raising the standards of excellence that he places on himself. To date, he has completed more than a thousand portraits in oil, and continues to produce beautiful original portraits, in a loose and beautiful painterly style. His client list includes mostly women and children.
